Climate: Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinctive seasons, uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity, and abundant rainfall. Temperatures usually range from 23 to 32 degrees. April and May are the hottest months, with the wetter monsoon season from November to January. From July to October, there is often haze caused by bush fires in neighboring Indonesia.

Apart from being a secular country, Singapore is a country of multi-ethnic society practicing multi-culturalism and multi-religion. Each ethnic group practices its own religion and belief which means various festivals are celebrated throughout the year. These festivals are usually celebrated either nationwide or at state level. Some of these festivals are public holidays. The festive dates vary each year as each festival is based on the local calendar systems.

Shopping is second only to eating as a national pastime, which means that Singapore has an abundance of shopping malls, and low taxes and tariffs on imports coupled with huge volume mean that prices are usually very competitive. While you won’t find any bazaars with dirt-cheap local handicrafts (in fact, virtually everything sold in Singapore is made elsewhere), goods are generally of reasonably good quality and shopkeepers are generally quite honest due to strong consumer protection laws.
The Great Singapore Sale, usually held in June-July, when shopping centers pull out all stops to attract punters. There are lots of items to feast everyone’s senses on what to shop out of an exasperating variety available in Singapore. Singapore is a melting pot of cuisines from around the world, and many Singaporeans are obsessive gourmands who love to east. One can find quality Chinese, Malay, Indian, Japanese, Thai, Italian, French, American and other food in this city-state. The Singapore Food Festival is held every year in July. The most common local cuisine includes Chilli Crabs, Katong Laksa (with chilli paste) and Satay with peanut sauce, onions and cucumber. The Peranakan/Nonya cuisine is the second preferred cuisine in Singapore having the luxury of delicacies like Kaya, Mee Siam, Popiah, Rojak, Satay Bee hoon and Laksa Lemak. The traditional Malay Cuisine enjoys the luxury of sumptuous delicacies like Mee Rubus, Mee Soto, Nasi lemak, Otah, Rendang, Sambal and Satay. The Malay Cuisine also has some soothing desserts especially Bubur cha cha, Ice Kachang and Pisang Goreng.

The Chinese food as eaten in Singapore commonly originates from southern China, particularly Fujian and Guangdong. The traditional Chinese dishes are Bak chor mee, Bak kut the, Char kway teow, Chee cheong fun, Fishball noodles, Hainanese chicken rice, Hokkien mee, Prawn noodles, Steamboat, and Yong tau foo. The smallest of the area’s big three ethnic groups, the Indians have had proportionally the smallest impact on the local culinary scene, but there is no shortage of Indian food even at many hawker centers. The traditional Indian Cuisine includes Fish head curry, Nasi briyani, Roti parata, and Putu mayam. Singapore is plush with many international Fast food chains viz. Mc Donald’s, Carl’s, Burger King, Orange Julius and many more. Vegetarian food is available without any problem in the entire Singapore.
